Year-round, with spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) the most comfortable windows.

The trekking season runs from April to October, when the high trails are normally snow-free. Spring brings green valleys and wildflowers; summer days are warm in the valleys and cool at altitude; autumn is crisp and clear with the best visibility. From November to March snow and ice settle above 3,000 m and the higher routes become winter mountaineering objectives. Mountain weather changes quickly at any time of year, so layers and a waterproof shell are essential in every season.

How hard is it, honestly

This trek is rated Easy. Easy — 3–4 hours of gentle riverside walking with a short scramble to the upper falls. Suitable for all fitness levels.

No prior trekking experience is needed — sturdy shoes, water and a steady pace are enough.

Fitness and preparation

Atlas trekking rewards endurance over raw strength. Aim for three to four cardio sessions a week — brisk walking, hiking, cycling or stair climbing with a loaded daypack — for eight to twelve weeks before a multi-day trek.

On summit and high routes, a slow conversational pace and constant hydration matter more than any training PR. Train on terrain similar to what you will face and break in every piece of footwear well in advance.

What to pack

• Broken-in hiking boots with ankle support (trail shoes are fine for easy day hikes).
• Layered clothing — moisture-wicking base, fleece mid, waterproof shell.
• A 25–35 litre daypack with 2 litres of water capacity.
• Sun protection — high-SPF sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, lip balm.
• A headtorch with spare batteries.
• Personal medications and blister plasters.

Yes — the group is exclusively women (max 8) with a female guide wherever possible. A safe, supportive space throughout.

Is the argan cooperative really run by women?

Yes — the Ourika argan cooperatives are run by and for local women, providing independent income. Your visit directly supports them, and your guide translates the conversation.

Can we swim at the waterfalls?

In the warmer months (May–September) the natural pools are safe for a paddle or swim. Your guide knows the safe spots and supervises.

Is it suitable for solo women?

Yes — many guests are solo women. The small women-only group is welcoming and supportive.
