A volcanic wilderness

Jbel Saghro is a volcanic massif that sits between the High Atlas and the Sahara — a landscape of jagged peaks, eroded rock formations and vast open plateaux. It is the warm winter wilderness alternative to the snowbound High Atlas, and one of the most distinctive hiking landscapes in Morocco.

From Nkob you transfer to a Saghro trailhead and hike a mountain day into the massif. The terrain is rocky and open, the views stretch to the desert, and the sense of remoteness is real. Your guide sets the route and pace to your fitness and the conditions on the day.

Geology, nature & the desert edge

Saghro is a geology-lover’s massif — volcanic rock, lava remnants and dramatic erosion shapes tell the story of a landscape being slowly worn toward the Sahara. Your guide points out the formations, the acacia and the wildlife that survives at the desert edge.

This is a bigger mountain day and suits walkers who want a physical challenge and a genuinely wild landscape. The confirmed route, distance, elevation gain and walking time are sent in your written proposal after the team reviews the conditions and your group.
