Four days exploring the rose-pink granite world of Tafraoute and the Anti-Atlas — a landscape completely apart from the High Atlas. Walk between 26 Amazigh villages in the Ammeln valley, photograph the extraordinary Painted Rocks, explore almond and argan groves, and reach a panoramic ridge above the Anti-Atlas. Itinerary
Day 1 — TRANSFER DAY — Marrakech to Tafraoute
Depart Marrakech at 07:00. Drive south over the Tizi n’Test (2,100 m) or via Agadir and Tiznit into the Anti-Atlas — arriving in Tafraoute at approximately 14:00. An afternoon orientation walk to the Painted Rocks (Jean Véram’s coloured boulders in their granite setting) at the golden hour before dinner at the guesthouse.

Day 2 — TREKKING DAY 1 — Ammeln Valley Circuit
A full circuit of the Ammeln valley, passing through 26 Amazigh villages on ancient footpaths and mule tracks. Walk through almond and argan orchards, ascend to a granite ridge with panoramic views over the valley, and share lunch in a village family home. Return to Tafraoute in the late afternoon.

Day 3 — TREKKING DAY 2 — Anti-Atlas Ridge Walk
A different route today — ascending to the Anti-Atlas ridge above Tafraoute for panoramic views across the Jebel Lkest massif and south toward the Sahara. Walk a high ridge traverse between granite tors and Amazigh shepherd camps before descending through a different valley back to town.

Day 4 — TRANSFER DAY — Tafraoute to Marrakech
A final sunrise walk among the granite boulders above Tafraoute — the rock glows deep pink and amber in the early light. Depart at 07:30 for the return drive to Marrakech, arriving by mid-afternoon.

Tafraoute deserves four days. The 5-hour drive means a 3-day trip gives you only one real walking day — not enough for this extraordinary landscape. Four days gives you two full days of trekking at a relaxed pace, with time to truly absorb the Anti-Atlas.
