A rolling limestone plateau above the Asni valley, the Kik (Kik) Plateau is one of the great easy walks near Marrakech — open grassland scattered with spring wildflowers, grazing flocks and an uninterrupted panorama of the snow-capped Toubkal massif across the valley.

History
Long used as seasonal grazing by the Berber villages of Asni and Moulay Brahim, the plateau sits on the old approach between the Haouz plains and the mountains, its shepherds’ paths worn smooth over generations.
Culture
Shepherding life, hillside hamlets and the nearby pilgrimage village of Moulay Brahim, clinging to its gorge. Simple hospitality, mint tea and roadside honey sellers define the area.
Climate
Mild foothill climate. Green and flower-strewn in spring; hot and golden in summer; crisp and clear in autumn; cold with distant snow views in winter.
Best time to visit
March to May for wildflowers and green grassland; September to November for clear Toubkal views.
Food
Roadside tagine, grilled meats, fresh bread and locally pressed honey and olive oil from the Asni souk.
Geography
A broad limestone tableland at roughly 1,400 to 1,700 m, rising above the Asni valley and facing the Toubkal massif across a deep valley. The plateau is open, gently rolling grassland grazed by flocks, edged by hillside hamlets and dropping away to river valleys on either side.
Hiking opportunities
The Kik Plateau is prized for easy, panoramic walking. The classic traverse across the tableland (about 11 km, mostly level) delivers continuous Toubkal views with minimal ascent, ideal for families and beginners. Longer options descend to the Asni valley or link toward Moulay Brahim. It is one of the gentlest genuine Atlas walks near Marrakech.
Getting there
The plateau is about 60 km south of Marrakech: a 75-minute private transfer via Tahnaout and Asni to the trailhead on the plateau edge. We include air-conditioned private transfers as standard.
Accommodation
Most visitors walk the plateau as a day trip from Marrakech, but the nearby Asni valley and Ouirgane offer characterful guesthouses and eco-lodges for those wishing to stay overnight and explore further into the foothills.
Safety
The plateau is safe and non-technical, but it is open and exposed to strong sun and wind. Bring sun protection, a windproof layer and plenty of water. There are no facilities on the plateau itself, so come prepared for a self-contained day.
