How hard is it, honestly
This trek is rated Easy. Easy. Around 11 km of nearly level walking on open paths with only gentle undulation — suitable for children and anyone in reasonable everyday health. Trainers are fine.
No prior trekking experience is needed — sturdy shoes, water and a steady pace are enough.
Fitness and preparation
Atlas trekking rewards endurance over raw strength. Aim for three to four cardio sessions a week — brisk walking, hiking, cycling or stair climbing with a loaded daypack — for eight to twelve weeks before a multi-day trek.
On summit and high routes, a slow conversational pace and constant hydration matter more than any training PR. Train on terrain similar to what you will face and break in every piece of footwear well in advance.
What to pack
- Broken-in hiking boots with ankle support (trail shoes are fine for easy day hikes).
- Layered clothing — moisture-wicking base, fleece mid, waterproof shell.
- A 25–35 litre daypack with 2 litres of water capacity.
- Sun protection — high-SPF sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, lip balm.
- A headtorch with spare batteries.
- Personal medications and blister plasters.
