Day-by-day itinerary
Across 3 days / 2 nights you cover around 20 km, reaching 1,500 m, walking with a Berber mountain guide through the landscapes and villages of Erg Chigaga.
- Day 1: Marrakech to the Draa — Drive + 2 hrs · 5 km · max 1,500 m. Cross the Tizi n’Tichka and descend past Ouarzazate to the palm-lined Draa, with a short oasis walk.
- Day 2: Walking into the dunes — 5 hrs walking · 12 km · max 600 m. Drive to the desert edge, then trek on foot with a camel caravan into the dunes to a bivouac camp for sunset.
- Day 3: Sunrise & return — 3 hrs walking + drive · 3 km · max 600 m. A dawn dune walk, breakfast, then the drive back to Marrakech via the Draa.
Accommodation
We use a carefully chosen mix of mountain refuges, family-run Berber guesthouses (gîtes) and, on desert and luxury departures, elegant tented camps. Refuges offer dormitory or shared rooms with hot meals; guesthouses provide private rooms, hot showers and home cooking; camps feature proper beds, en-suite facilities and candlelit dining under the stars.
