Morocco Hiking Holidays

Scenic mountain landscape in the Atlas Mountains, Morocco showing multiple peaks and valleys

A Morocco hiking holiday typically runs 7–14 days: a few days in Marrakech, a 2–5 day trek (Toubkal, Azzaden or M'Goun), and a desert or coast extension. Budget from €600–€1,500 per person excluding flights.

A hiking holiday in Morocco is one of the most rewarding ways to experience the country — combining a proper mountain trek with time in Marrakech and an optional desert or coast extension. This guide gives ready-made itineraries and the practical logistics so you can plan with confidence.

What to expect day to day

A trekking day starts early with breakfast, walking 5–8 hours with a long lunch break, arriving at the refuge or guesthouse by late afternoon for mint tea and dinner. On trek you carry only a daypack; mules carry your main bag. Days in Marrakech are your own — explore the souks, gardens and historic sites, or just rest.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a Morocco hiking holiday be?

A week is enough for Marrakech plus a 3-day Toubkal trek. Two weeks lets you add a 4-day Azzaden Circuit and a Sahara desert extension. Even a long weekend works for a day hike or 2-day Toubkal.

What is a good 1-week itinerary?

Days 1–2 in Marrakech, Days 3–5 on the 3-day Toubkal trek, Day 6 rest in Marrakech, Day 7 explore and depart. A balanced, classic first hiking holiday.

What is the cost of a hiking holiday?

From around €600 per person for a 1-week trip (Marrakech + 3-day Toubkal, excluding flights) to €1,500+ for a 2-week trip with a luxury desert extension. Trek pricing is transparent on each tour page.

What is included?

On treks: licensed guide, mule team, accommodation, all meals, water and private transfers. Not included: flights, Marrakech hotels, insurance, drinks, gear rental and tips.

What is the best time for a hiking holiday?

Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) for the best weather across altitudes. Summer suits the highest summits; winter is quiet and cheap but snow closes high passes.

Can I customise my itinerary?

Yes. Most treks run as private departures on your dates, and we design bespoke itineraries combining treks, desert and coast. Use the custom itinerary request form.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes — comprehensive trekking insurance covering your route's maximum altitude (4,100 m for Toubkal/M'Goun) and emergency evacuation is required on every booking.

What is the fitness requirement?

For the 3-day Toubkal, good cardiovascular fitness — able to walk uphill for several hours. For easier holidays based on day hikes, regular walking is enough. See the difficulty guide.
