Frequently asked questions

Is the Todra Gorge better as a day trip or with an overnight?

An overnight in the gorge is strongly recommended — it breaks the long drive, lets you walk in morning and evening light, and gives a completely different experience of the canyon in silence after the day-trippers leave.

Is the Dades Gorge better than the Todra Gorge?

They are very different. Todra is narrower and more vertical — the walls are closer and more dramatic; Dades is longer, more varied and has the extraordinary Monkey Fingers rock formation. Many visitors do both in a 3-day itinerary.

Can I see rock climbing in the gorge?

Often yes — the Todra walls are some of the finest sport-climbing in Africa and international teams are frequently on the routes. Your guide can point out the famous lines.
