Everything you need to plan toubkal winter ascent — 3 days — day-by-day itinerary, difficulty, fitness, altitude, weather, accommodation, food, safety, culture and logistics, from Marrakech to Mount Toubkal.
Toubkal in full winter is a serious alpine objective, not a walk. With crampons biting into hard neve and an ice axe in hand, you climb a silent, snow-plastered mountain empty of the summer crowds — the closest thing to Alpine mountaineering that Morocco offers.
We run tiny winter groups with a high guide ratio and provide the technical hardware. Our guides hold winter accreditation and turn parties around without ego when avalanche or wind risk rises.
Confident hill walkers ready to learn or use crampon and ice-axe technique. Previous winter or multi-day trekking experience is strongly recommended; this is not a first mountain.
Rated Strenuous, it suits fit, experienced trekkers seeking a genuine mountain challenge.

Across 3 days / 2 nights you cover around 26 km, reaching 4,167 m, walking with a Berber mountain guide through the landscapes and villages of Mount Toubkal.
Two nights at the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m). In winter the hut is quieter and colder — shared dormitories with blankets, a wood-warmed dining room and cold water only. A four-season sleeping bag or warm liner plus down layers make the nights comfortable. Drying wet kit is limited, so pack spare dry gloves and socks.
Warm, calorie-dense mountain cooking: harira, tagines, pasta, plenty of bread, nuts, dried fruit and hot sweet tea to fight the cold. A hot breakfast precedes the summit push and a thermos of hot drink is carried. Tell us dietary needs in advance.
Winter-accredited guides carry technical kit, first aid and monitor snowpack and weather continuously. You are taught self-arrest before the summit day. We turn back for avalanche risk, whiteout or frostbite danger without hesitation. Insurance must cover winter mountaineering above 4,000 m.
Winter reveals the toughness of Amazigh mountain life — smoke rising from snow-bound Aroumd, animals brought indoors, tracks broken by hand between houses. Village hospitality is even warmer in the cold; a glass of tea by the fire is a genuine welcome, not a performance.
Not included: Personal winter clothing, Insurance, Tips.
It is strongly recommended. We teach crampon and ice-axe skills, but the summit still demands confidence on steep firm snow, so a background of winter hill walking or an Alpine course helps enormously.
Yes — crampons and ice axe are included and fitted at the refuge. You supply insulated mountaineering boots (B2/B3), warm layers, gloves and goggles; we can advise on rental in Marrakech.
We add a spare acclimatisation night precisely to give weather flexibility. If avalanche or storm risk is high we adjust the objective or descend. Safety always outranks the summit.
