Stand on the rooftop of North Africa. This classic two-day ascent takes you from the walnut orchards of Imlil to the 4,167 m summit of Jebel Toubkal — overnighting at the mountain refuge with a pre-dawn summit push into a sea of Atlas peaks. Marrakech pickup and drop-off included.

Day 1 — TRANSFER DAY — Marrakech to Toubkal Refuge via Imlil

Depart Marrakech at 6:00 AM by private air-conditioned 4x4 or minibus. The 65 km drive via Ourika Valley and Asni takes roughly 1.5 hours to Imlil (1,740 m), where you meet your professional English-speaking guide over a cup of mint tea. From Imlil, a 2-hour acclimatisation walk (3 km, 500 m elevation gain) follows the Mizane valley through walnut orchards and the Berber village of Aroumd, past the whitewashed pilgrimage shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, and up to the Toubkal Refuge at 3,207 m. Arrive by 10:30 AM, rest and acclimatise through the afternoon. Dinner is a hearty Moroccan tagine with bread and mint tea. Early night in preparation for summit day.

Day 2 — SUMMIT DAY — Toubkal Summit (4,167 m) & Return to Marrakech

Wake at 4:30 AM for a hot breakfast at 5:00 AM, then depart the refuge in the dark with headtorches. The route climbs the south cwm on rocky mountain paths and steep scree. By 7:00 AM you reach the Toubkal Saddle (3,800 m) — a 30-minute rest break here. The final push (1 hour, 367 m gain, steep rocky terrain) leads to the summit of Mount Toubkal at 4,167 m — the highest point in North Africa and the Arab world. Spend 30 minutes on the summit with panoramic views stretching to the Sahara and Atlantic. Begin the descent by 10:00 AM, passing the refuge and continuing all the way down the Mizane valley through walnut orchards to Imlil (3 km, ~2 hrs), arriving by early afternoon for a celebratory mint tea. Board your private 4x4 for the 1.5-hour drive back to Marrakech, with drop-off at your riad or hotel by late afternoon.

Fitness & preparation
